You can certainly mix parts from different model styles as well, but it'll add a bit more work down the line. Just that by far, TDA parts are the most ubiquitous. In theory if you know other modelers, you could also look for parts from them as well so something like "Eto base/hair/face" or "Arlvit base" and get parts that would fit together to form a model in the original modeler's style as well. When people say "Look for TDA bases/hair/clothes" it means stuff like bodies, faces, or whatever that will all fit together properly both in mesh and skeleton to form a proper model built in the pattern of something made by TDA.
